Back Injury Workshop

This is a specialised Pilates class ideal for people looking for rehabilitation and remedial exercise as a result of a medical condition or injury related. Pilates is low impact and targets muscle groups that work to support joints and bone structures. It is a perfect way to gain strength in the weaker or injured muscles and joints.

BODYPUMP
This is for anyone looking to get lean, toned and fit – fast.
Using light to moderate weights with lots of repetition, BODYPUMP gives you a total body workout. It will burn up to 590 calories. Instructors will coach you through the scientifically proven moves and techniques pumping out encouragement, motivation and great music – helping you achieve much more than on your own! You’ll leave the class feeling challenged and motivated, ready to come back for more.

BODYATTACK

This is a high-energy fitness class with moves that cater for total beginners to total addicts. We combine athletic movements like running, lunging and jumping with strength exercises such as push-ups and squats. A LES MILLS™ instructor will pump out energising tunes and lead you through the workout – challenging your limits in a good way, burning up to 730 calories and leaving you with a sense of achievement.

RPM
This is the indoor cycling workout where you ride to the rhythm of powerful music. Take on the terrain with your inspiring team coach who leads the pack through hills, flats, mountain peaks, time trials, and interval training. Discover your athlete within - sweat and burn to reach your endorphin high.

Recipe of the month

This superfood supper is packed with ingredients to give your body a boost, such as red onion, nigella seeds, walnuts, rapeseed oil and lemon.

Chicken, broccoli and beetroot salad with avocado pesto

Ingredients


• 250g thin-stemmed broccoli
• 2 tsp rapeseed oil
• 3 skinless chicken breasts
• 1 red onion, thinly sliced
• 100g bag watercress
• 2 raw beetroots (about 175g), peeled and julienned or grated
• 1 tsp nigella seeds
For the avocado pesto
• small pack basil
• 1 avocado
• ½ garlic cloves, crushed
• 25g walnut halves, crumbled
• 1 tbsp rapeseed oil
• juice and zest 1 lemon

Method


Bring a large pan of water to the boil, add the broccoli and cook for 2 minutes. Drain, then refresh under cold water. Heat a griddle pan, toss the broccoli in 1⁄2 tsp of the rapeseed oil and griddle for 2-3 minutes, turning, until a little charred. Set aside to cool. Brush the chicken with the remaining oil and season. Griddle for 3-4 minutes each side or until cooked through. Leave to cool, then slice or shred into chunky pieces.

Next, make the pesto. Pick the leaves from the basil and set aside a handful to top the salad. Put the rest in the small bowl of a food processor. Scoop the flesh from the avocado and add to the food processor with the garlic, walnuts, oil, 1 tbsp lemon juice, 2-3 tbsp cold water and some seasoning. Blitz until smooth, then transfer to a small serving dish. Pour the remaining lemon juice over the sliced onions and leave for a few minutes.

Pile the watercress onto a large platter. Toss through the broccoli and onion, along with the lemon juice they were soaked in. Top with the beetroot, but don’t mix it in, and the chicken. Scatter over the reserved basil leaves, the lemon zest and nigella seeds, then serve with the avocado pesto.

Serves 4.

Spinning
Saddle up, blast the music and get your heart pumping. Try our classes and spinning will get you addicted to sweaty workouts!
Spinning is suitable for all fitness levels from complete beginners to elite athletes. This class is also ideal for participants looking for a high energy workout with very low impact on the joints.
It’s a great, fun way to get into shape with high energy music and extreme calorie burn. All good reasons to spin!


Body Flex
A blend of Yoga, Tai Chi and Pilates that builds strength and flexibility. The class includes a series of controlled stretches, moves and poses to music, with an all-over holistic workout that brings the body into a state of balance.

Circuits
Circuits is a cross training class that is great for developing all-round fitness. Straightforward aerobic and resistance exercises are performed at a series of workstations, creating a fun and challenging workout that is different every time.

Ballet
This class teaches all different aspects of technique, whether you want to take up ballet as a serious skill, brush up on your technique, learn new and exciting routines or just want to get fit and have fun. Come and do a class that will make you move like a professional ballerina.

Zumba
Zumba has been described as “exercise in disguise” as the classes are so much fun you will forget that you are working out!
Zumba is one of the most popular group fitness classes in the world. Why? Because it’s great fun! Each Zumba class combines dance moves inspired by samba, salsa, mambo and hip hop with classic moves from aerobics to martial arts, leaving you with a unique workout guaranteed to break a sweat and raise a smile.

Stretch and Tone
Stretch and tone is a combination of Pilates and Yoga with an element of stretching. Using your body weight to increase muscle tone and stretching to increase flexibility.

Our All Weather Pitch provides the perfect playing surface regardless of weather. The pitch can be hired, per hour, as one third of a pitch or hired as one whole pitch.

Splash and have fun this May half term

Learning to swim is an important skill for everyone to learn. Here at Teddington Pools & Fitness Centre our swimming crash courses are suitable for all ages and abilities. A short intensive course is often the best way to learn to swim or develop your skills. Courses are available for all ages and abilities during the half term holidays.

One day workshops for diving are also available. These workshops are a great way to improve diving skills, learn how to do elementary dives, leading into racing dives from the side and the blocks. Diving is for children over 8 years and they must be able to swim 25 metres of all strokes.

Don’t forget you can come and have fun with the floats in our fun time float sessions. These run every weekend.

Kids can have fun and learn a new sport

Our spring programme has just started and there are still a limited number of places available on our sports courses at Teddington Sports Centre and Hampton Sports & Fitness Centre.

Teddington Sports Centre
Located at Teddington School and offers a great choice of courses including:

Street Dance
Learn urban dance moves to the latest dance tunes. Our structured dance classes are designed to develop technique, co-ordination and confidence in street dance styles.

Karate
Children will improve balance, hand-eye and hand-foot coordination, flexibility muscle tone, cardio-vascular/fitness timing and rhythm. All that and they’ll learn self defense as well.

Hampton Sports & Fitness Centre
Located at Hampton Academy and offers a wide range of junior courses including:

Judo
This is a course that promotes self-defense within close proximity. Judo is a close contact sport that concentrates on throws and sweeps rather than kicks and punches. This course is run in our gymnasium dojo, for children of all levels.

Gymnastics
Join in one of the most popular sports in the UK. Our classes will introduce your child to a range of exciting activities from floor work to vaulting. Gymnastics is great for developing co-ordination, balance and fitness as well as giving a real sense of achievement.

Get your skates on

If you are just starting out, or are an experienced skater looking for a little extra help then why not come along to the roller lessons at Whitton Sports & Fitness Centre and our professional skate instructors will be available. Sessions are available for children aged 5+years and adults too.

Once you’ve learnt all the moves why not stay and practice at our roller disco. Show off your skating skills to the latest tunes!
