Enjoy swimming…live healthy…live happy

Many people run to get fit but don’t think of swimming as another major route to a healthier lifestyle. What a mistake!

Why does swimming need to be part of your lifestyle:

• 30 minutes of steady-paced lane swimming burns over 200 calories – well over 400 in an hour.
• Any swimming that makes you breath more heavily counts as “moderate” activity. Even treading water takes effort, so you are working most of the time you are in the pool.
• The pressure and resistance of the water makes your body work that little bit harder. That means 30 minutes of activity in the water is worth 45 minutes of the same activity on land.
• The water takes your weight, so swimming can be great for people who have mobility problems or want to protect their joints.
• Swimming works your whole body for overall toning.
• Swimming is great for your heart. Because you are using your whole body your heart has to pump blood to your arms and legs, helping circulation too.
• It is also great for your lungs – length swimming in particular forces you to breath in a deep and rhythmic way which gives your lungs a boost.
• Being in water can have great psychological benefits too – the pool can “take you away from it all” and the feeling of being in water can be refreshing, relaxing and liberating as the water takes your weight.

Its birthday time….lets party!

We offer a great range of children’s parties available at Shene Sports & Fitness Centre, Hampton Sports & Fitness Centre, Whitton Sports & Fitness Centre and Teddington Sports Centre.

Sports parties include football, trampolining and karate. For that little something different why not try our dance party? We can co-ordinate the party to suit your individual needs, whether it’s choreographing a routine to High School Musical, West End shows and current pop tracks or helping the party children create their own funny dance moves. Whatever you require, we’ll make sure we offer it!

Fun Gym parties are ideal for those little ones. You can be sure they’ll have a great time on both our superb bouncy castle and playing with our impressive collection of soft play equipment.

Looking for something to do this half term?

We have spaces available on our half term holiday swim crash courses. So please hurry and book your place today!

It’s the half term holiday and the last thing you want while the kids are home from school is for them to sit in front of the TV or play video games all day. So why not let them do something they already enjoy that’s healthy, and book them into a swim crash course at Teddington Pools & Fitness Centre.

Swimming crash courses are a great introduction to swimming for your child. The aim of our courses is to build and improve water confidence / swimming ability in all age groups, to improve weak swimmers and to give the younger ones an introduction to water safety and structured lessons.

Our holiday crash courses are designed both for participants already in our swim school on level 6 or below and for those that have never used the centre before.

Bored of the usual holiday activities?

Why not come along to Teddington Pools & Fitness Centre and try something different! We offer Diving Workshops for children aged 8+years.

Diving Workshops
A chance to improve diving skills, learning how to do elementary dives, leading into racing dives from the side and the blocks. Diving is for children over 8 years and able to swim 25 metres of all strokes.

Workshops are available:
Tuesday 14 February 10.45-11.30am

Thursday 16 February 11.30am-12.15pm and 12.15-1.00pm

Our new programme has just started here at Teddington Pools & Fitness Centre so why not try one of our new fitness classes?

Pilates, 8.30-9.30am on Tuesdays.
Enhance your mind, body and soul with Pilates. One of the most popular forms of exercise, Pilates can help get your core and the rest of your body back into shape.
Popular? Yes, everybody’s doing it, so why don’t you come along and experience what all the fuss is all about.
Just what can Pilates do for you, you ask? Well it can:
• Strengthen your core and improve your posture.
• Improve your flexibility and balance.
• Enhance your mental wellbeing and allow you to temporarily forget about the stresses of life. 
 
Spin, 11.30am on Fridays.
Saddle up, blast the music and get your heart pumping. Try our classes and spinning will get you addicted to sweaty workouts!
Spinning is suitable for all fitness levels from complete beginners to elite athletes. This class is also ideal for participants looking for a high energy workout with very low impact on the joints.
Spinning is a great, fun way to get into shape with high energy music and extreme calorie burn. All good reasons to spin!

Jump off the beam…tumble your way across the mat

Join in one of the most popular sports in the UK. Our gymnastics classes at Hampton Sports & Fitness Centre will introduce your child to a range of exciting activities from floor work to vaulting. Gymnastics is great for developing co-ordination, balance and fitness as well as giving a real sense of achievement.

Classes are available:
Saturday
9.00-10.00am 5-6yrs beginners
10.00-11.00am 7-8yrs intermediate
11.00-12noon 9+yrs advanced

Would you like to work as a pool lifeguard?

Lifeguards are an integral part of the staff at a swimming pool. They keep an eye on everything happening from poolside and are qualified to intervene and even save someone’s life if they are in trouble.

Teddington Pools & Fitness Centre runs National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) courses throughout the year.

The role is nearly always offered on a part time basis and this flexibility means it is often taken up by young people at college or university. For many lifeguarding provides an excellent foundation for a career in the leisure industry – many pool managers began their professional careers as a lifeguard.

The UK National Pool Lifeguard Qualification is the most awarded lifeguard qualification in the UK and Ireland that complies with the industry requirements. This qualification is a recruitment requirement for a number of leisure jobs from Pool Lifeguard to Centre Manager. On successful completion of this course you will be fully qualified to work as a Pool Lifeguard in the UK.

The NPLQ course comprises both physical training and theoretical classroom work, followed by a water based practical test, dry assessment on pool rescue, first aid, CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) and lifesaving skills. The course includes AED bolt on.

All applicants must be 16 years or over.

The next course will be held from Monday 13 to Saturday 18 February.
