Feel Good Swim School - adult lessons

Swimming is one of the best forms of exercise. It’s gentle, aerobic and great for the heart and physique.

Learning to swim as an adult can be intimidating and challenging. While swimming seems to come naturally to children at times, it can be difficult for adults to realise there are options out there for them to improve.

Finding a workout routine that’s both effective and fun is more important than ever. Working out in a gym is a great choice, but swimming offers a low impact workout that’s sure to make your joints happy. Swimming works almost every muscle. Talk about an efficient workout!

Adult swimming lessons aren’t just for people who can’t swim at all. Many adults who know how to swim may not necessarily swim with an efficient swim stroke. When you are in the water you should move in smooth, light motions. If you’re splashing around, you probably don’t have the fundamentals down as well as you thought. Adult swimming lessons can help to improve stroke development.

Here at Teddington Pools & Fitness Centre we offer 6 week courses for beginners, intermediate or advanced swimmers. Please click here for more information or call the centre reception on 020 8977 9911.

Tone Up and Zumba

When it comes to sculpting, Zumba Toning raises the bar or rather, the toning stick. It combines targeted body sculpting exercises and high energy cardio work with Latin infused Zumba moves to create a calorie burning, strength training dance fitness party. You will learn how to use light weight maraca like toning sticks to enhance rhythm and tone all those targeted zones including arms, abs and thighs.

Zumba Toning is the perfect way for enthusiasts to sculpt their bodies naturally while having a total blast! Classes take place on Mondays and Wednesdays at Shene Sports & Fitness Centre. Click here for more information.

You know your age, but do you know your "FitnessAge"?

What Is FitnessAge?
FitnessAge is a breakthrough fitness assessment program that inspires and motivates real change. FitnessAge provides a fun and easy to understand fitness assessment experience.

Age vs FitnessAge
A 42 year old can have a FitnessAge of 64 or 24, depending on how well they have looked after themselves. For example, if a 42 year old had neglected their health and fitness and their FitnessAge is 64, this means they are physically performing at the same level as the average 64 year old. On the flip side, an older individual who is health conscious could maintain the physical condition of a much younger person.

Ever wondered whether you’re ageing faster or slower than you should be? After reaching the age of 21, your chronological age has very little meaning or relevance when compared to the physical condition of your body and overall health. Ageing doesn’t happen with just the rising and setting of the sun, but rather is heavily influenced by how you treat your body.

The Motivation You’ve Been Looking For
No fitness program can get off the ground without motivation. Typically, the catalyst that causes people to change their habits and take fitness seriously is something personal. FitnessAge operates in a similar way. When you discover your FitnessAge, these instantly understood results act as an impetus for lasting health improvements.

What Are The Tests?
Experts all agree that fitness is more than just muscles or cardio.
Fitness is comprised of four key categories, all of which are tested by FitnessAge.
BODY — Body Fat %, Weight, and Body Measurements
CARDIO —Resting Pulse and Recovery Pulse (3-minute step test)
FLEXIBILITY — Sit and Reach (touch your toes)
STRENGTH —Sit-ups (1 minute) and Push-ups (until fatigue)

The tests used in FitnessAge are all industry standard tests that are also used by the world’s leading authorities on exercise physiology.

How Your FitnessAge is Calculated
The patented FitnessAge software takes your test scores and then matches them to a national database of scores. From this, we are able to determine your FitnessAge which is comprised of your BodyAge, CardioAge, FlexAge & StrengthAge.

How Long Does It Take?
Your FitnessAge assessment is conducted as part of a group session and takes roughly 30 minutes.

Online Access, Tracking & Programming after your assessment.
Once your assessment is complete, you can access your results online at anytime and track your improvement.

In addition to this our trainers will through discussion with you and your results tailor your Feel Good Fitness program to ensure that you are working towards improving these results when you are next tested.

The initial fitness testing session will be used to give you an indication of what your fitness age is at the start of your programme, so that future testing can be compared to this and improvements or changes can be noted. Your results will help build specific and measurable goals, with your trainer making your programme as individual as possible.

When can you do it?
We are offering sessions once a month at each site, so why wait, contact us now to book your Fitness Age assessment!

Yoga at Teddington Pools & Fitness Centre

The Iyengar approach to Hatha Yoga is characterised by attention to alignment, detail and by the use of “props” to achieve the right action in asana. It is a progressive, cumulative method which enables learners to progress safely and extend personal limitations irrespective of age and ability.

Teddington Pools & Fitness Centre regularly runs beginner’s yoga courses. These courses are for 6 weeks. Once the beginner’s course has been completed participants can attend any yoga class within the timetable as they will be considered to be at general level standard.

Please call Teddington Pools & Fitness Centre on 020 8977 9911 for the dates of our next yoga course or to register interest.

Tennis at Teddington Sports Centre

Tots Tennis
This is an early introduction to the game for pre-school aged children. These are fun based sessions with an emphasis on balance and coordination to help them get ready for our Mini Tennis course. Parents are encouraged to join in the fun with their children on court. These sessions are a great start to the tennis which will help your child enjoy a lifetime of sport.

Mini Tennis
This is a great introduction to the sport for young children aged between four and ten years old. It’s just like playing the real game but with smaller courts, nets, rackets and lower-bouncing balls. The low compression balls used in Mini Tennis are now being used by clubs and coaches across the UK to introduce adult beginners to the sport. These slower and lower bouncing balls make it far easier to learn the game.

There are three levels of Mini Tennis; Red, Orange and Green, each with their own court size and type of ball. This type of approach, based on age and physical maturity enables players to develop vital skills and techniques at an early age.

We have a fantastic highly qualified coaching team here at Teddington Sports Centre that will ensure every child has great fun while learning a new sport. We aim to progress the programme of courses throughout the season. Click here for more information.
