Junior Ballet at Orleans Park

If your children are interested in taking dance lessons, you may want to consider enrolling them in a course in classical ballet. Ballet is a form of dance that relies heavily on physical strength and agility, strong concentration skills, an understanding of music and rhythm and a love of movement. Instruction in ballet can provide numerous benefits for children of all ages regardless of their skill level.

Like any dance form, ballet is physically intensive. Ballet requires the use of muscles in the arms, legs and torso and the various movements are designed to increase physical strength, flexibility and range of motion. Ballet also involves a number of exercises that are designed to increase heart rate, which can improve endurance, stamina and overall cardiovascular health.

In addition to its physical benefits, ballet can also help to improve children’s mental and emotional health. As children begin to improve they may gain a new sense of self-confidence which can help in other areas of their lives.

The following ballet classes are available at Orleans Park Sports Centre:

Monday
Baby Ballet 3 years 4.00-4.30pm
Pre-Primary Ballet 4 years 4.30-5.15pm
Primary Ballet 5 years 5.15-6.00pm

Which is Better for Children: Karate or Taekwondo

Which system of martial art is better is always a matter of opinion. The reality is that they both share similar influences far back in their origins. They both require athleticism, stamina and discipline, and are both effective for self defense. However, you may find that the flavour of taekwondo or karate better suits your child’s physique or personality.

What distinguishes taekwondo from other martial arts is its more varied kicking techniques and its priority towards kicks as a primary weapon. In taekwondo pupils can learn to perform multiple kicks while flying and jumping in the air, but such kicks are perhaps not suitable for all pupils, and are seldom used in real-life self defense. Karate schools generally teach very few or no jumping or flying kicks, but utilise basic kicks as a supplement to the hand and elbow strikes.

Orleans Park Sports Centre offer both karate and taekwondo classes for children so why not give them a try and make your own mind up!
